Opening Reception for Art Exhibition

at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is hosting an opening reception for their new exhibit Resilient & Creative: A National Juried Exhibition, on Friday, August 13, 5 to 8 p.m., and all community members are invited to join the festivities. Members are invited for the first hour for a special VIP Member Hour with a curated presentation by Gallery and Program Director Sarah Jane at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend from 6 to 8 p.m. Harbinger Winery will be serving wine in the courtyard throughout the evening.

Resilient & Creative contains nearly 80 artworks by 42 different artists from throughout the United States. The Olympic Peninsula is well represented by local artists Helga Winter, Elisabeth Mention, Meg Kaczyk, and Judith Bird from Port Townsend; David Willis, Ryoko Toyama, Allyne Lawson, and Mary DePaolo from Sequim; and Carmen Czachor, Laura Garrard, Carmen Germain, Monica Gutierrez-Quarto, Pamela Hastings, Loreen Matsushima, Rachel McElhose, Eva & Roger McGinnis, Ellie Polk, and Jodi Riverstone from Port Angeles. As part of the evening event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet some of the exhibiting artists in person.

The artwork varies in medium; visitors will find pieces of photography, collage, watercolor, oil paint, pencil and ink, fused glass and other creative mixed media. Despite the range of art types, the exhibition is held in balance by the underlying tension between hardship and hope.

“This is a weighty, substantive body of work. Many pieces are aesthetically beautiful and all demonstrate artistic skill, but what stands out most for me is the real sense of hardship and struggle reflected in these artworks,“ states Gallery and Program Director Sarah Jane.

“All the art will be for sale, and art collectors won’t want to miss this great selection of paintings, prints, photographs, and drawings as well as a handful of striking sculptural pieces. With prices starting at just $60 and most pieces priced under $500, this is also a great opportunity for new collectors to bring home an original artwork”, continues Jane.

Community members can learn more about the artists and view pieces online at https://www.pafac.org/rc2021.html

Masks are required for all attendees at all times in the gallery. Those who are fully vaccinated may remove their masks in the courtyard if able to maintain 6ft of social distance. Resilient & Creative will remain on display at the historic Esther Webster Gallery during regular gallery hours from August 14 – September 26, 2021.

This event is free to attend. PAFAC Members are invited to attend the Members VIP Reception from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. PAFAC membership can be purchased online or at the door for those interested in becoming members. Members are provided with discounts at all Port Angeles Fine Art Center events and are invited to special member-only festivities throughout the year.
